Guide to Finding The Best Vacuum for Pet Hair

Toby came into my life when I needed a companion badly. He was a playful Cocker Spaniel, who unfortunately, shed a lot of hair all over my otherwise spotless home. Since I entertained a lot, dog hairs were a turn-off.

I set out to find the number one vacuum cleaner for pet hair that money could buy. Intent on owning only the best, I found out that the most expensive one was usually not it.

Today, I’m going to share with you the lessons I learned in my battle against pet hair. It’s going to be a quick guide to show you how to buy the best pet hair vacuum.

Best Pet Vacuum?

The “best” is always going to be the one that’s most suited to your lifestyle, and needs.

There are 2 kinds of classic vacuum cleaners: the upright, and the canister.

Although upright cleaners are more popular, if you’re mostly going to be cleaning bare floors, then choose a canister. Canisters are the best vacuum for hardwood floors, and there are plenty that are also great for cleaning hair.

Upright vacuum cleaners are much easier on the back. So if you need to clean wide areas, then an upright model is what you want to go for.

Do not be swayed by popularity. What works for other people, may not work for you. Consider carefully how you will use, and how often you use a vacuum cleaner, before deciding on one.

Get a Pet-Specific Vacuum

Manufacturers have learned from their past consumers’ experience and have come up with products geared specifically for cleaning up hair. Of course, you don’t want to just take their word for it.

Here are a few things to watch out for and take into consideration:

  1. A strong suction power in order to deal with embedded hair.
  2. Good vacuums for animal hair needs to have a strong roller brush.
  3. A powerful airflow so that the nozzle does not get clogged easily.

Study Different Brand Manufacturers

When you’ve narrowed down the kind of vacuum you need, study the manufacturers. There are many brands with a good track record when it comes to quality and service.

Your first concern should be durability. Don’t be taken in by techno-babble. You know what you need, so make sure the cleaner you bring home does what it needs to do, and does it well too.

It’s highly recommended that you read many customer reviews, in order to learn from the experience of those who have bought it before you. You can do so by browsing through big online retail sites like Amazon.com and take note of what previous customers are saying. They have plenty of useful information, and objective reviews that can help you finalize your decision.

Thinking About Buying Your First Pet?

For those of you that don’t have a pet yet, I want to tell you upfront that owning a pet is not all fun and games.

If you have a very busy life, you’ll probably save yourself a ton of hassle down the road if you choose a low-maintenance pet, preferably one with short or no hair at all. This will drastically cut down on your cleaning time.

Toby was a gift to me, and I love the little guy dearly, but I made a lot of concessions when he came into my life. If compromise is not part of your vocabulary, then choose carefully the pet that you bring home.

Make Your Decision

Deciding on which vacuum cleaner to buy is not an easy task. But if you want a home that’s immaculate and free of hair, then it’s vital that you take the time to study the all best vacuums available in the market.
